Purchased our second Cord Keeper. Original lasted an estimated 15 years. Though the original GFI plug burned out when the cord next to it shorted, I replaced with a heavy standard plug and last year the original rubber cord shorted out and I replaced it with 15 amp twin conductor cord and the recoil mechanism was not usable any longer and the folding handle mechanism broke a few years ago, the basic functionality of the dryer has been exceptional. The ancillary pieces need to be stronger but the overall performance warranted us purchasing a new one when a few weeks ago in the middle of drying my hair it quit and never worked again. Assuming an internal thermal protector fuse finally opened up. Not bad for 15 years. One habit we initiated was to never shut it off hot. I always press the cool button until the air coming out is cooler. Heat is the enemy of any electric device and the purpose is to not let the high heat of the elements stay inside the dryer to "cook" the internal parts as it cools down after use. Takes only a few seconds to cool it off. That apparently had a lot to do with the 15 year use. The new Cord Keeper seems to be only slightly different but still the same basic design that works. Satisfied customer.

Cord Keeper Product Design Flaw Model 289N
I bought this a couple weeks ago and the retractable cord (Cord Keeper) barely works only if you push the cord into the handle. This is the second one I purchase and the result is the same. This model is a hard do not buy. The best model is the 309R. I wish model 309R was still being made. Model 289N is junk. The rewind mechanism was changed when the model changed and now it is a borderline product liability case.

Not great.
I bought this because my 26 year old Conair hairdryer finally died. I got this model for its size, the folding handle, and the retractable cord. The cord is shorter than most other hairdryers. The cord keeper stopped working after only three weeks of light home use. So far the handle still functions as it should. Very disappointed in the quality of this product. Now I have to replace it not just for the reasons stated here, but reading the other reviews here there’s apparently a fire hazard by using it.

Needs improvement
This is the third time buying this product. The dryer either dies or the cord rewind fails OR both! This latest purchase the cord rewind failed out of the box. The only reason I continue to guy it is because of the folding handle. I have very limited space in my apartment. Please improve the product - I am willing willing to pay more for a better product.

Fire hazard
bought several months ago and last week it caught fire while I was blowing my hair dry. It was terrifying to see the cord in flames. I would not recommend this to anyone. The convenience of have a folding handle and retractable was was the big draw for me but I think it has a flaw design that is a fire hazard.
